After more than twenty years of waiting, Ballantine Memorial School (BMS) finally celebrated the completion and official opening of its new double-storey building.ย The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro officially opened the new building, marking a milestone achievement for the all-girls school in Delainavesi. The project, which had remained incomplete for over 20 years, was brought to life following a request made by the school to the Ministry of Education. Responding to the call, the Ministry funded the refurbishment and completion works at a total cost of $660,463.27, carried out by Urban Building Solution Pte Ltd and completed in just 16 weeks.ย The newly upgraded building now features eight classrooms, two staff rooms, and a modern WASH facility, along with key structural improvements including reinforced beams, new roofing, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, and safe bridge access, ensuring a safe, modern, and fully equipped environment for students and teachers.ย Speaking at the event, the Hon. Minister congratulated the school community for their patience and perseverance, noting that the new facility is a testament to the Peopleโs Coalition Governmentโs commitment to improving education infrastructure across Fiji.ย The Hon.Minister also commended the dedication of teachers and staff for their continued commitment to nurturing young women of faith, discipline, and purpose, he also encouraged parents and guardians to remain actively engaged in their childrenโs learning journey.ย The day also marked the opening of the schoolโs Family Fun Day, where the Hon. Minister joined the school community, Ministry of Education staff, and teachers in contributing towards the schoolโs annual soli.ย The Ministry acknowledges the generous support of the Office of the Prime Minister for donating 200 desks and chairs to Ballantine Memorial School. This contribution greatly enhances the schoolโs learning environment, ensuring students have the furniture and resources needed to fully benefit from the new facilities.ย The Ministry also acknowledges the support through the WASH Programme, which provided two 10,000-litre water tanks, and the Ministry of Health, for contributing a third 10,000-litre tank. These efforts have strengthened the schoolโs water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities, ensuring a safer and healthier learning environment for students and staff.ย The event was a celebration not only of a long-awaited building project finally completed, but also of the strong partnership between the Ministry, the school, and the community, all working together to create better learning spaces for Fijiโs children.
