After more than two decades, the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, visited schools across Oneata, Moce, and Lakeba District during his ministerial tour in Lau β marking a historic and uplifting moment for these maritime communities.
At Oneata Primary School, the Minister officiated as chief guest at a prefect induction ceremony β the first time such an event has been attended by a sitting minister. He encouraged students to remain disciplined, set clear goals, and strive for success through hard work and perseverance.
In Moce, both primary and secondary students warmly welcomed the Minister despite late evening arrivals, reflecting their enthusiasm and commitment to education. The visit also highlighted Moce Secondary Schoolβs progress in digital learning, with its successful inclusion in the Year 13 flexi-school programme through the Moodle platform.
The tour extended to Lakeba District, where the Minister was traditionally welcomed with the presentation of the Masi ni Vanua o Lakeba, acknowledging the Vanua and its leadership. He later visited Ratu Alifereti Finau Primary School, Ratu Finau Secondary School, Uluiqalau District School, and Waciwaci District School, engaging directly with students, teachers, and school management.
Throughout the tour, Hon. Radrodro praised the dedication and sacrifices of teachers, acknowledging their vital role in shaping the future generation. He emphasised the importance of strong partnerships between parents, guardians, and educators to achieve national education goals, including improved student performance.
Educational resources such as textbooks, library materials, and wash kits were distributed to support students and enhance learning environments. The Ministry team also conducted curriculum alignment checks, assessment reviews, syllabus updates, and addressed finance and FEMIS-related matters across all schools visited.
School leaders noted that the visit significantly boosted morale and strengthened their commitment to delivering quality education in maritime and rural communities.
This ministerial tour reaffirms the Ministryβs commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of location, has access to quality education and the resources needed to succeed.
